Oilersnation Everyday podcast host Tyler Yaremchuk revealed major stumbling blocks that the team will face when it comes to trades this offseason.

He explained the Oilers are at a major disadvantage when it comes to assets to be used for trade as the team has large contracts that are untradeable and would need picks and prospects to be attached to make the deal.

Nurse trade proposal will make team weaker

Yaremchuk suggested that many feel Darnell Nurse would be a top trade candidate as he holds a cap hit of $9.5 million.
He was quick to point out that the Oilers would likely need to attach top prospect Sam O'Reilly and draft picks to entice a team to take on his full 9.5.
If that deal were to go through, the Oilers would be left with nothing in terms of tradeable assets and low draft capital all in the name of saving cap space to sign Aaron Ekblad as an example which would be a total savings of $1 million.
The Oilers face major decisions over the next number of months as the team only has three draft picks of their own which is 3rd rounder, 6th and 7th rounder.
The organization only has $11.9 million in cap space and faces a tough decision on how to sign Evan Bouchard who is currently seeking $10 million per season.

Bowman will have a challenging offseason

This current situation is one of the drawbacks when a team goes all in and just comes up short as the Oilers have over the last two years at the Stanley Cup finals.
With no first round pick in the next two seasons and the lack of cap space and the inability to use their draft picks involving offer sheets, the Oilers are in a bit of a dilemma which will likely mean major surgery will be needed to the team.
There are major concerns within the team's structure which includes their defence and their goaltending which became a sore spot as the Stanley Cup final wore on.
The team is still evaluating its options and how it will address the draft which is set to begin on June 27th.
Oilers fans will need to wait and see what will happen this summer as many expect change to occur and questions to be answered.
