The Oilers first trade deadline move this season was acquiring Trent Frederic, who has only played 7 minutes with the Oilers before re-aggravating an injury and being ruled out.
Oilers GM Stan Bowman has strange response to injury concerns around Trent Frederic
Speaking to Mark Spector of Sportsnet, Oilers General Manager Stan Bowman stressed that Frederic's injury isn't serious, showing his level of concern is very low.
It's a very dismissive answer of an injury that could be very costly to the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers paid extra in the trade for salary retention on Frederic, and at this point it's looking like he may not be healthy until playoffs.
The most frustrating part, there were concerns from NHL insiders that Frederic wouldn't be healthy for the playoffs.
Edmonton Oilers may be in trouble with Trent Frederic trade
Oilers insiders are currently reporting that Frederic is dealing with a soft tissue problem, or a high ankle sprain.
These injuries are incredibly tough to overcome, and even if Frederic is back in Game 1, he won't be near fully healthy in the playoffs at all.
The Oilers gave up a fair bit of assets in the Trent Frederic deal, and this surely isn't the way they envisioned it playing out. If he isn't able to make much of an impact in the playoffs, the Oilers will be pressured into re-signing him to recoup some value.
Stan Bowman's comments being so dismissive of this injury as not serious is surely just a manager not wanting to create a storyline, because it is absolutely
becoming a worst case scenario.
