Insider provides major injury update on Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner before playoffs

The Edmonton Oilers are dealing with a litany of injuries just weeks away from the playoffs, but thankfully are hearing good news on the condition of starting goalie Stuart Skinner.
Nearly two weeks ago against the Dallas Stars, Skinner took a hard contact to the head from Mikko Rantanen - just a few days after being pulled for concussion protocol.
Oilers insider provides good news for injury to goalie Stuart Skinner
According to an update today from Oilers insider Jason Gregor, Stuart Skinner was back o the ice today in full gear, and taking shots from other injured players. Gregor believes a return later this week could be possible.
It's an extremely encouraging sign for Skinner, and great news for the Oilers just a few weeks away from the playoffs. Skinner returning later this week will give him 3 or 4 games before the end of the season.
The Oilers priority at the moment needs to be getting healthy and ready for Game 1, so it will be great to get Skinner a few games before then.
Oilers fortunate to get good news on Skinner
Skinner's injury against Rantanen was quite a terrifying event. Head injuries can be unpredictable, so the more extremely fortunate he was held out for only 2 weeks.
Calvin Pickard has stepped up and been fantastic in 4 of the 5 games in Skinner'S absence. Skinner will still be the Oilers playoff starter, but Pickard perhaps proved he could handle a bit more of the workload if Skinner falters.
The Oilers goaltending will be their biggest question mark heading into the playoffs. Their forward and defence group are the deepest they've been this decade - even including some veterans in down years.
If the goaltending can step up to meet the moment in the playoffs, the Oilers roster can do the same to get them back to the Cup Final, and get a different result.
