The Edmonton Oilers are now officially through their first 15 games of the season, and Connor McDavid is still having trouble scoring at even strength.

The entire Oilers offence has performed well below expectations so far this season, especially at 5v5. Somehow though, Connor McDavid is one of the players struggling the most at generating offence.

Connor McDavid not scoring at total rate at even strength

So far this season, Connor McDavid has only produced 2 goals and 6 points at even strength. He does play the heaviest minutes in the Oilers, but based on his 5v5 points per 60 minutes, McDavid ranks near the bottom of the team.
Obviously, this is just an anomaly in his game for McDavid to experience such a slump. He's still putting up points - he's got 21 points in those 15 games - but it may be a concern to see him joining the team's even strength struggles.
And of course, Connor McDavid is the last player the Oilers should be worried about. He's up to 7 points in his last 3 games, and is starting to look like the McDavid we all know. Maybe it's just been another slow start.
However, the entire team trending downward on 5v5 offence may have another source rather than just a McDavid slump. The Oilers aren't reaching the slot for high-danger chances nearly enough, which could be a failure of the players or a deliberate strategy by the Coach.
Whatever it is, the Oilers will surely begin turning around their 5v5 offence, and Connor McDavid will likely finish the season near the top of the NHL in the category. Oilers fans will just want to see them dial it up sooner than later.
