With Oilers' defenseman Alec Regula activated from the IR, the team now faces the decision of which of their depth-defensemen will be removed from the lineup.

It seems likely that a trade is imminent, as Edmonton could use help on various fronts, namely depth scoring and in the goalie department. With that in mind, several teams are looking to add a defenseman to their lineup.

Roster-crunch forces coach's hand on defense

Troy Stecher is someone the Oilers could move, who can also help a team like the Carolina Hurricanes, whose defense-roster is depleted because of injury to their top guys.
Jacob Slavin, K'Andre Miller and Shayne Gostisbehere have all missed multiple games this year, leaving Carolina's d-core vulnerable. Analyst Frank Seravalli confirmed the club is in fact in the trade market.

Troy Stecher could strengthen the Canes' blueline right away, a stopgap defenceman with the ability to play a solid 200-foot game. The Oilers are reportedly searching for a new team for him, and could get a mid or low draft pick in return.
The Dallas Stars are also actively looking for a defenseman. Though not plagued with injuries like Carolina, beyond the top-4, their d-pairings are weak, as was seen last year when they were exposed versus the Oilers in the playoffs.
Ty Emberson could be the ideal target as he provides a greater upside and future outlook than does Stecher. Ty would also command a greater return for the Oilers, draft picks they can use at the trade deadline - but the Oilers want to keep the promising young player.
Finally, Vancouver Canucks are dealing with injuries to Derek Forbort and Victor Mancini and could use a defenseman like Stecher; he can jump right into the lineup for a team where he began his career and where he played four seasons.
With reports that the Oilers are interested in dealing for Kiefer Sherwood, Ty Emberson could be the right candiate to go the other way.
