With Edmonton keeping a close watch on goalie developments across the NHL, news out of Carolina that Brandon Bussi could be available has piqued their interest.

Crowded crease may force Carolina to trade a goaltender

I'm not certain how much more I can say about Edmonton's goalie situation that hasn't already been repeated countless times over. Let's just agree that the Oilers' need an upgrade in goal, and sooner the better.
Though Carolina's starting goalie Frederik Andersen has failed to advance his team deep into the post-season four years running, he is firmly entrenched as the team's number-1 goalie.
Their back-up goalie Pyotr Kochetkov has returned to the Carolina Hurricanes' lineup after missing the beginning of the season due to a lower-body injury. He made his season debut on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, against the NY Rangers, recording a 3-0 victory.
That leaves Carolina's number-3 goalie exposed to waivers, which the team will avoid at all costs, given his strong performances this season thus far, where he's posted a record of 4-3-1, a 2.25 GAA and a .916 SV%.
Edmonton could do worse than to inquire into Bussi's availability, as the team's goaltending continues to spiral downward, becoming more and more unreliable with each passing game. It may even be possible that another Hurricanes goalie could become available, like Kochetkov.
Oddly enough, Carolina plucked Bussi from waivers last month, when Florida decided to send the 27-year old to the minors, a decision based more on Brandon's desire to play in the NHL than his ability. He is a solid alternative to Calvin Pickard and/or Stuart Skinner.
Bussi is currently on a one-year deal worth $775K, making a waiver claim very easy. Perhaps the Oilers will take a chance on him on waivers, or target another goalie from Carolina.
