NHL insider places startling odds on McDavid leaving Oilers in free agency

The Edmonton Oilers biggest priority at the moment is re-signing Connor McDavid, but one NHL insider isn't so sure he stays at all.
Top Oilers insiders remain extremely confident McDavid will stay in Edmonton, and it's just a matter of when the contract gets done. However, other insiders around the NHL aren't so sure.

On a recent edition of the Barn Burner Podcast, TSN insider Darren Dreger reported that McDavid's chances of staying in Edmonton are currently as low as «50/50».
If it happens, and I'm still 50-50 that it is going to happen. But if it gets done in season, I still feel like it's more likely going to be a shorter contract, like a two year term. And that probably scares the crap out of Oilers fans and maybe Oilers ownership as well.

The Oilers are certainly becoming a bit more uncomfortable as McDavid's situation drags on, and if there's no resolution before the regular season, it will only get worse.
However, the most plugged-in Oilers insiders have reiterated their reports that McDavid will stay in Edmonton on a short term contract.
I am remaining at my 102% that McDavid signs some form of an extension with the Oilers. I work for the Oilers Entertainment Group, okay? I'm telling you, I'm steadfast at 102%.

With the regular season now just a few days away on October 8th, the Oilers should be making one major final push to sign McDavid - and hope it doesn't drag out any longer.
