Jeff Skinner is loving every minute of the Oilers run to the Cup Final, but after a tough season overall in Edmonton, it's widely expected he'll be leaving in free agency this summer.

Coach Knoblauch has directly admitted Skinner's fit hasn't been a great fit for the Oilers this season. Skinner's gave it his all when called upon, and has actually been effective in limited minutes, but just didn't fit the Oilers style.

Vancouver Canucks named as leading team interested in Jeff Skinner

In an new article from the Athletic, insider and analyst Thomas Drance named Jeff Skinner as a prime fit for the Canucks looking for a cheap injection of offence into their top-six.
We'd be remiss, however, if we didn't include him as a consideration. Skinner, after all, ranks among the top-30 NHL forwards in five-on-five points rate across the last three seasons and was originally drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes during Jim Rutherford's stint as general manager." Dayal and Drance said.

The Canucks will be one of the more active teams in free agency this offseason, with plenty of cap space and a need to replace Brock Boeser and other lost offensive talent.

Jeff Skinner likely leaving Oilers after struggling to find fit this season

Jeff Skinner's game took a jump in January of this season, and even in mostly 4th line minutes, he was able to score 16 goals and 29 points this season. As a 33 year old veteran with 373 career goals, it's fair to assume his scoring could increase with more minutes on another team.
This season, Skinner already signed for a cheap contract of only $3M. After an even tougher season, Skinner will likely be worth even less than his current deal.
It's been a tough season for Jeff Skinner, but by the way he conducts himself as a teammate, you'd never know. He's remained positive throughout the tough year and just wants to see his team win. He's only played 2 playoff games, but he found a way to make an impact with one goal.
Anytime a former Oiler signs with the rival Canucks or Flames it kind of stings, but if Skinner is just looking for more ice time after winning a Stanley Cup - it's totally understandable.
