Milan Lucic signed a homecoming contract with the Boston Bruins in 2023, but after just 4 games was on leave of absence due to legal issues for the rest of the season.
Now, it looks like the 37 year old enforcer forward may be trying to make a comeback to the NHL.
Former Oiler Milan Lucic breaks his silence after being off the radar
In October of 2023, Lucic was arrested and charged for a domestic incident involving his wife. The charges were later dropped, and Lucic spent time in the NHL's Player Assistance program for substance abuse - and never returned to play.
The greatest gift you have given our children is the gift of your sobriety -the ability to experience life through a cleaner, more grounded perspective. You have always been present for them, and now, even more so
- Brittany Lucic
Now, Lucic himself is finally speaking long after the incident has been out to rest. In a brief two word message on social media, Lucic was clearly grateful to be with family, to have restored himself and the situation.
It's great to see Lucic in a better place than the uncomfortable end to his time in Boston, and potentially the end of his NHL career.
Lucic has played 1177 career NHL games, including 243 games with the Edmonton Oilers between 2016-2019. At his best, Lucic was a power forward who was feared physically by his opponents and able to put the puck in the net with multiple 20+ goal seasons.
At 37 years old though and a year removed from playing at all, there's serious questions about if his skating could hold up for another year in the NHL. For now, it's just great to see Lucic's personal life in a better place.
