The Edmonton Oilers have been playing through a worst case scenario with McDavid and Draisaitl out with injury, but good news should be coming for the captain with an imminent return.
Connor McDavid could return as soon as tomorrow for Edmonton Oilers
According to the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, the Edmonton Oilers and McDavid have targeted tomorrow night's game against St. Louis for his return date.
This return timeline is also consistent with reporting from insider Elliotte Friedman, who reported that a return «mid-to-late» this week was likely for McDavid.
It is believed that potentially sometime later this week that Connor McDavid will make his return. He looks good, and the belief is he will play later this week.
- Elliotte Friedman
Based on the fact that McDavid travelled on their last road trip, and eventually moved out of a no-contact jersey, means that an earlier return looks more possible.
Playing at home against St. Louis looks like a very possible return, and at the absolute latest will be Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.
It's hard to believe that McDavid has missed almost three weeks with his current injury, believed to be a groin issue. The injury dates back to the Oilers captain taking an awkward cross check from Jets defenceman
Josh Morrissey.
Hopefully the Oilers played it overly cautious and allowed McDavid to get fully rested and healed before bringing him back to play. If McDavid isn't fully healthy for the entirety of the playoffs, the Oilers will be in trouble.
