The Edmonton Oilers have announced that Stuart Skinner and Mattias Ekholm will not initially join the team on their upcoming four game road trip, and McDavid could be travelling and is closer to a return.
All three Oilers missed the last game and longer dealing with their respective injuries, but none of these players were expected to miss as much time as they have.
Oilers extend injury timelines on Connor McDavid, Stuart Skinner, Mattias Ekholm
According to an update from Oilers reporter Gene Principe, Coach Knoblauch has confirmed that Connor McDavid, Stuart Skinner, and Mattias Ekholm won't join the team on their coming road trip.
Knoblauch did confirm that McDavid would return before the end of the regular season, which seems to be a concerning comment considering there was no initial expectation he would miss that long.
Unfortunately, Mattias Ekholm and Stuart Skinner's absences brings some cause for concern. Skinner was initially listed as day to day, but head injuries like the one he sustained can be volatile.
Mattias Ekholm has been dealing with issues since being shut down and brought back earlier this year, and still isn't fully healthy before playoffs.
However, the Oilers will see some good news with
Evander Kane and
Trent Frederic now travelling with the team to re-join practice. It looks like an earlier return may be in the cards for both of them.
Hopefully the Oilers have got the injury bug out of their system after this major slew of injuries plagued the team just before the playoffs. The Oilers need to get fully healed up, but also still pursue home ice advantage in the standings.
