It was a chilling few minutes for everyone in Rogers Place and watching the game at home, but now some details have emerged.
Medical emergency delays start of Oilers and Flames game
The start of the Oilers game was strangely delayed for a few minutes, but quickly people began to realize that an emergency was unfolding in the stands.
According to Bob Mackin of The Breaker News, a fan suffered a heart attack at Rogers Place just prior to the game.
It's a truly awful situation. Oilers fans and all hockey fans watching were holding their breath, and are still hoping the best for the fan in distress.
The Oilers medical staff were seen talking to the referees to delay the game and make sure the fan received the proper medical attention quickly. It was a great and quick move from the team doctor.
The Oilers' medical lead TD Forss was hopefully able to delay the game to get proper attention to the fan in the stands. Hopefully his actions could assist the fan.
It was a harrowing beginning to a hockey game, especially a rivalry game for the Battle of Alberta. It's a somber reminder that hockey is just a game, and there's much more important things around us.
We here at OilersDaily extend the best wishes to the fan who endured the event, and the great medical professionals who were able to help.
