The Dallas Stars have officially defeated the Winnipeg Jets in the second round of the playoffs, and will be taking on the Oilers in the Western Conference Final.
Tonight's contest was a hard fought game that went overtime, and an emotional affair with the passing of Mark Scheifele's father. Unfortunately, the Jets came up just short.
NHL insiders announce Oilers and Jets third round schedule for playoffs
According to Sportsnet, the Western Conference Final will begin on Wednesday May 21, and they'll play every other day until a potential Game 7 on June 2.
Notably, the schedule includes a matinee game at 1:00MT for Game 3 in Edmonton. Playoff games always feel like the main event of the sports world, so to see a day game for such a critical moment is wildly disappointing from the NHL.
The Dallas Stars and NHL even had to move a Katy Perry concert to begin the series at the earliest possible point on Wednesday. It's a tad unfortunate the Oilers couldn't benefit from an extra day of rest, but Edmonton will surely be ready to go.
Western conference final rematch confirmed between Oilers and Dallas Stars
The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars met last year in the playoffs, with the Oilers eliminating them in 6 games.
Like the LA Kings, the Stars will be looking for revenge and to finally beat their rival Oilers in the playoffs. Also like LA, the Oilers are comfortable with their history of beating Dallas - but are still looking to elevate their game.
