The Edmonton Oilers are gearing up for a big game tonight against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and will see some big-name adds to their lineup - and some subtractions.
Dealing away Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak, the Oilers have shipped out two long-term veterans of the locker room. They've got their starting goalie in return, but McDavid and the room are still sad to see their friends go.
Connor McDavid shares parting message on Skinner and Kulak
Speaking on the trade at today's media availability, McDavid didn't hide his emotions to see the pair leaving. He did show some enthusiasm for the new players, but clearly more reflecting on the losses.
Obviously sad day to see those two guys go. Two guys that have been great for us for a long time. Disappointing to see them guys go.
That being said, excited to bring Jarry in and Spencer, two guys that have played well this year and think they can help.
I think [Skinner] should be remembered for leading the way to two Cup Finals. Two exciting runs that he backstopped. He was a good person while he was here, always treated people well. I support him.
Skinner definitely made his mark in Edmonton as a quality person and someone who was living the dream of playing for their hometown team. However, the results just weren't there in the last two playoffs, and a fresh start looks best for both the team and Skinner.
Tristan Jarry excited to join Edmonton Oilers, welcomed trade out of Pittsburgh
Jarry also gave the classic lines of respecting his former team and time in Pittsburgh, but he clearly is excited to be joining the Oilers - and moving back to his offseason home in Edmonton.
Being able to hear it was to the Oilers, it's very exciting. They obviously have a very good opportunity here, and to be part of that is going to be special.
Just my time playing there with the Oil Kings, I enjoyed it so much. I had a lot of friends there, I kind of grew up there. So when I had the opportunity to buy a home, that's kind of where I decided to set roots.
