The Vancouver Canucks have officially traded Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild in a massive blockbuster trade.

Rumours of the Canucks trading Hughes emerged in the last few weeks as Vancouver continues to sink in the standings, and their captain was openly sulking during games.
With trading arguably the top defenceman in the NHL, Vancouver is launching a rebuild.

This will go down as one of the biggest, most influential trades in recent NHL history. The Canucks will acquire Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 1st round pick for Hughes.
The 26 year old Hughes has this season and next left on his contract paying $7.85M, and it was clear he was not re-signing with the struggling Canucks. They needed to deal him to get assets back, but no one expected it this quickly.
What's crazier, the Canucks may have actually won the deal for Hughes. Giving up a generational defenceman is brutal for the team, but they got some incredible pieces in return for very little control years on Hughes.
Marco Rossi is a skilled 24 year old centreman who's already got 202 games of NHL experience, and he's put up a career high of 60 points in one season. There's more potential for him to grow into a real player.
Zeev Buium has been one of the most impressive defensive defenceman prospects in the NHL in some time, and quickly made the jump to the pro level after being drafted in 2024. At 20 years old, he'll be a piece on Vancouver's blue line for a long time.
Ohgren is another high end 20 year old forward prospect who's played NHL games, and while he hasn't had success yet - there's still promise for growth. In addition to a 1st round draft pick, it's a solid futures return.
In exchange for just 1.5 seasons of Hughes, the Canucks managed to land at least 2 core pieces to assist them through a rebuild. Honestly, it's not the worst deal for parting with a franchise player.
