Connor McDavid implies he may not re-sign with Edmonton Oilers
Speaking to the media today, McDavid said that he's in no rush to sign a new deal. He'll take the time to assess all of his options, including not signing with Edmonton.
It's not something I take lightly. It's not something my family takes lightly. I've put everything I have into my career. You only have one chance to do it right.
All options are on the table. That would mean length of term. Short term. Long term. Yeah, No term. All options are on the table as I alluded to.
- Connor McDavid
According to reports from Bob Stauffer, McDavid's biggest priority on his next contract is ensuring himself the best chance to win over multiple years.
He believes in his Oilers' teammates, but the last two years they've still come up short. The very fact that McDavid hasn't signed yet indicates that the Captain is skeptical about their chances to contend in the long term. It makes sense given their aging players like Hyman, Ekholm, and Nugent-Hopkins.
Management has taken some steps with the acquisitions of Howard and Savoie to add high-end young talent, but McDavid must need to see more from the Oilers. Perhaps it could be an upgrade on their weakest position, the goaltending.
