Edmonton Oilers make roster move to bring back injured defenceman Alec Regula

The Edmonton Oilers have made a roster move to activate defenceman Alec Regula from the injured reserve.
Regula has missed the last 12 games with injury after taking 2 hard hits from Evander Kane early this season.

The Oilers officially announced the move to activate Regula this morning. After skating at practice consistently the last week, he could be ready to play tonight's back to back game against the Dallas Stars.
It was a tough break to see Regula go down with injury after just 2 games this season, as he became one of the team's biggest stories in preseason. The 25 year old defenceman looks poised to take a step and become an NHL regular.
Listed at 6'4 and 211 pounds, Regula gives the Oilers size and strength at the 6th defenceman spot - something that Stecher and Emberson are weaker on. However, the really interesting thing about Regula has been his excellent puck movement.
If Regula can keep up the strong two-way play and use his size, he'll provide immense value to the Oilers on their bottom pairing. Signed until the end of 2026-27, Regula could have a future on this team.
Another Oilers roster move is imminent after Regula is activated from IR
Now that the Oilers have activated Regula, Edmonton is at the maximum roster capacity of 23 skaters.
They'll also have Zach Hyman and Mattias Janmark returning from injury in the next few days, which will require multiple moves to clear roster spots and salary space. According to PuckPedia, the Oilers will need to clear $2.799M to activate Hyman.
It's likely that the Oilers could soon make a trade to clear a roster spot, and also demote a player to the AHL.
