Connor McDavid has officially registered his 1100th career point in tonight's game vs. the St. Louis Blues, and the NHL is giving him some recognition.
McDavid is unanimously known as the best player in the NHL now, so his torrid scoring pace isn't surprising anymore. Still, it's worth it to take a moment and appreciate the greatness in Edmonton.
The historic point came as a powerplay assist to
Jack Roslovic's goal in the first period.
NHL recognizes Connor McDavid for 1100th career point
McDavid registered his 1100th point in his 726 games, becoming the 4th fastest player to reach the milestone in NHL history. The league took a moment to acknowledge the historic feat.
Only Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, and Mike Bossy were able to reach 1100 points in less games than McDavid. He's truly in elite company as one of the NHL's most dominant players in history.
To be so far ahead of his modern-day peers in scoring pace isn't the most astounding element of McDavid's achievement. The skill of every player in the NHL has increased so much, that there's a real argument to be made that McDavid most skilled player of all time already.
Now over the hump of 1100 points, fans will be looking to the next real milestone - McDavid becoming the second player in history to score 2000 points.
Still just 28 years old and scoring well over a point per game, it could be very possible that McDavid reaches 2000 as long as he stays healthy.
Hopefully McDavid can keep dominating the NHL here in Edmonton, and chase down the league's most storied records as an Oiler.
