As the 2022-2023 season closes in on the 40-game mark, most NHL fans look to the NHL power rankings to get a sense of where their team stacks up against others, especially within their division.
It was just released recently that the week 11 rankings were revealed and the Edmonton Oilers currently sit at #17. This is a drop from 15 last week.
The Oilers are currently sitting one point out of a playoff spot which is held by the Calgary Flames. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are having career years once again and the Oilers just signed goaltender Stuart Skinner to a three-year extension to retain his services.
As a team in the middle of the pack, they will be buyers and sellers at the trade deadline I expect the Oilers will be very active to acquire talent along the defensive end of their game because that's one of their glaring weaknesses. I also feel that depth scoring will be needed to help for a long playoff push and playoff run.
Rumored possible defenceman targeted would be Jakub Chychrun of the Coyotes, Joel Edmundson of the Montreal Canadiens, and John Klingberg of the Anaheim Ducks.
