BREAKING: NHL Coach Fined $10,000 And Player Receives Suspension
In a recent game, the NHL invoked Rule 46.21, which resulted in an automatic suspension for Brady Tkachuk, along with a hefty fine for Head Coach DJ Smith.
Tkachuk was handed a one-game suspension for incurring an instigator penalty within the final 5 minutes of regulation, a rule designed to deter late-game altercations.
Simultaneously, Coach Smith received a $10,000 fine as a result of the incident.
Per NHL rule 46.21, Brady Tkachuk is set to be suspended for 1 game for receiving an instigator penalty in the last 5 minutes of regulation, while Head Coach DJ Smith would receive a $10,000 fine.
However, the Ottawa Senators are not taking this discipline lightly. According to Ottawa Senators reporter Bruce Garrioch, the team has announced its intention to appeal the suspension handed down to Tkachuk.
While Coach Smith acknowledges the rule in place, he believes the circumstances of the incident warrant a closer look, and the Senators are seeking a more favorable resolution through the appeal process.
The #sens will appeal the instigator on Tkachuk. Smith understands the rule but doesn't believe it should have happened in that situation.
