Zach Hyman leaves with injury after brutal side swipe hit from Mason Marchment
Zach Hyman injured after brutal hit from Stars forward Mason Marchment
With the play coming up the ice in the neutral zone, Mason Marchment clearly diverted his path to make a jump-hit at Zach Hyman - who was no where near the puck.
Hyman took the hit in an incredibly awkward manner - almost directly into his arms. It was a brutal sight to see Hyman, who has a reputation to be one of the toughest players in the NHL, immediately drop his stick and run down the tunnel clearly in pain.
It was absurd to see that Marchment didn't even get a penalty on the play. If Hyman is seriously injured,
NHL Player Safety will absolutely have to look at this hit. Especially now that Hyman has been ruled out of a return in Game 4.
Mason Marchment promised to injure an Edmonton Oiler prior to Hyman hit
To make matters even worse, Mason Marchment was one of
the Dallas Stars who publicly promised retribution for the injury to
Roope Hintz. Marchment made good on his promise with this brutal hit against a much better player than him.
Losing Zach Hyman would be a serious blow to the Oilers forward group. Hyman has played a top line role all through the postseason, scoring 11 points in 14 games and leading the NHL in hits.
Hopefully Hyman can avoid a worst case scenario for this scary looking injury, and make a quick return to the lineup.
