Oilers media calls for suspension after brutal hit leaves key forward Connor Brown injured
Connor Brown had already missed a few practices and was named a game-time decision by the Oilers earlier in the series. After taking a massive hit and leaving the game, it doesn't seem likely he plays Game 4.
Oilers media calls for suspension after questionable hit from Stars defender Alex Petrovic
David Staples of the Edmonton Journal is advocating
NHL Player Safety to levy a suspension against Petrovic for the hit. Staples claims Petrovic left his feet, and targeted Brown's head on the hit.
The claim that Petrovic left his feet is definitely an exaggeration from Staples, as only the back foot came up an inch while skating into Brown. However, Petrovic's shoulder did directly connect with Brown's head.
The head contact in this hit is really what makes it a questionable play, especially when it leads to injury. Petrovic was not penalized for the hit to the head.
So far, the NHL is not reported to be pursuing any supplemental discipline. Now 24 hours after the game, there is nothing expected from the NHL.
A suspension may have been too much, but a fine would be an appropriate punishment for a questionable high hit that resulted in injury.
Connor Brown appears unlikely to play in Game 4 vs Dallas Stars
Brown is a key player as a penalty killer and third line energy presence, but the Oilers have healthy bodies ready to go in his place.
Jeff Skinner and
Viktor Arvidsson can enter the lineup, and perhaps will be better than Connor Brown playing below 100% health.
Hopefully Brown is cleared and ready to go for Game 4, but if not, the Oilers will be ready to win and exact revenge for Brown.
