NHL analyst Bruce Curlock is suggesting the Edmonton Oilers should target former goalie Laurent Brossoit in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks.
Edmonton Oilers could target reunion with goalie Laurent Brossoit
Curlock suggested Oilers GM Stan Bowman will call his former team in Chicago, where the Blackhawks have 3 NHL ready goalies and one bound to be exposed on waivers.
After the Blackhawks re-signed
Arvid Soderblom to a 2 year contract for $2.75M annually, Laurent Brossoit is now their clear 3rd string goalie.
Now 32 years old, Brossoit actually began his NHL Career with the Edmonton Oilers back in the 2014-15 season. After a few years never finding a role with the Oilers, Brossoit left to play for the Jets and Golden Knights, becoming a solid backup for both teams.
In his last two seasons, Brossoit posted an elite .927 save percentage over 34 games. His analytics suggest he's an incredibly effective goaltender too, but there one big concern with is game.
Brossoit missed the entire season last year with a knee injury that didn't go according to plan. After undergoing surgery at the beginning of the year Brossoit was expected to be out just a few months - but problems got worse and he missed the whole year.
If he's healthy and the Oilers believe he can get back to posting a .927 save percentage, he could be available from the Blackhawks for a very cheap Silovs-type trade, or purely available on waivers.
