Expected contract offer to Connor McDavid revealed by NHL insider

The Edmonton Oilers need to re-sign Connor McDavid to a contract extension this offseason, and one insider has revealed the expected terms of the deal.
Top Oilers insiders currently say it's still 100% certain that McDavid will re-sign in Edmonton this summer barring some sort of disaster, but the only sticking point may be term - and how much of a salary discount he'll give.
NHL insider reveals expected terms of Connor McDavid contract extension with Oilers
A new report from NHL insider David Pagnotta suggests that the most likely offer from the Oilers to get McDavid signed will be a 4 or 5 year contract between $16-17M.
It may be a little unsettling for McDavid to sign below an 8 year deal - and that's could still potentially be on the table. The Oilers could potentially get McDavid signed to one of the last 8 year contracts allowed in the NHL, which could secure him a much bigger payday than a short term deal.
However, McDavid signing a shorter contract now could set him up for another full term contract afterwards, and become the highest paid player again sometime around 2030.
The Oilers captain has been clear that his biggest priorities his next contract is an environment to win, and the best environment for his family. Edmonton has proven to be the best location for both, so Oilers fans should have no worry about him re-signing.
It's possible a McDavid extension could get done when he returns home from Leon Draisaitl's wedding in France on the first weekend of August. Oilers fans will be dialled in around that time, hoping for some smoke around a deal.
