In his first rookie-showdown against the rival Calgary Flames, Oilers' prospect Connor Clattenburg has quickly made a name for himself by becoming an instant fan-favorite.

And though many attended Friday's rookie-game to see young sensations Ike Howard and Matt Savoie - who did not disappoint, by the way - it was the 6'4", 20-year old Clattenburg that made his presence felt by getting fans out of their seats following his two fights.
"I just want to go in there and play hard and set the tone for everyone else," said Clattenburg prior to the game. "And they can feed off it."

Big Oilers' prospect sends strong message to Battle of Alberta rival Calgary Flames

In his first bout, Connor took to the bigger, and younger, 18-year old Alex Hurtig, one of Calgary's defensive-prospects. Later in the game, Clattenburg then squared-up with another 18-year old, Maceo Phillips, who had an even greater size advantage.
Of course, given the rival-teams' history, it was expected that the game would have a physical component. That is was both teams' first unofficial-season game, only added to the excitement, with players from both sides looking to be noticed by their respective coaches.
Well, Connor Clattenburg certainly was, by both Calgary's and Oilers' coaches. His brand of play is something the Oilers could use, a physicality and aggression that serves quite well in the playoffs.
Connor Clattenburg signed a three-year contract in December, 2024, and becomes a Restricted Free Agent at the end of the 2027-28 season.
Selected in the 5th round of the draft by Edmonton in 2024, Connor played season with the Flint Firebirds of the OHL. He recorded 16G and 19A, and 108 PIM.
It's clear that Oilers have more than just a physical prospect in Clattenbugh; he can also score goals when lined-up in the right role. It will be Kris Knoblauch's task to determine what exactly that is when training camp finally begins.
