The Edmonton Oilers are unlikely to add any players on tryout contracts this season, according to a new report from Jim Matheson.
As the NHL approaches training camp set to begin next week, tryout contracts around the league have begun to roll in - but the Oilers lineup is already sufficiently deep.
Insider reveals tryout contracts appear unlikely for Edmonton Oilers this year
Insider Jim Matheson revealed that at the moment, the team appears to have no interest in adding PTO candidates. There's still time before players report on September 17th, but it appears unlikely.
In Edmonton, the fans understand hockey, they see all the little things: even if you didn't score or made a mistake, but you gave it your all, they appreciated it. They were the ones who pushed you forward. I wanted to go out and die on the ice for these people, for their emotions.

However, the Oilers may be right to pass on crowding their roster with more fringe-level players.
Edmonton already has a logjam at forward currently, and has multiple prospects in the AHL that could soon be ready to make the jump to the big league.
A reunion with Kostin would've been a feel-good story, but it doesn't seem in the cards to happen in the coming days. Hopefully Kostin finds another home in the NHL and can work to get his career back on track.
