Some Oilers fans begin to turn on Connor McDavid for contract comment

Earlier this week, Connor McDavid acknowledged for the first time that he may not re-sign with the Edmonton Oilers. Insiders are still extremely confident he will stay, but McDavid's comments caused a stir.

Most Oilers fans are patiently waiting and greatly optimistic that McDavid will re-sign, even understanding the hold up as the Captain makes a major personal decision. However, some Oilers fans were completely soured by his comments.

Seeing the Captain of the team speak with uncertainty about his future, some fans were upset by an apparent lack of commitment to the organization.

Some fans are suggesting they'd want to see Draisaitl as Team Captain instead of McDavid now.

The fans souring on McDavid are in the vast minority in Oil Country. He's given Edmonton his best effort and developed into the top NHL player with the Oilers.

Analyst Allan Mitchell also called out any fans sour on McDavid's comments, and stressed that the Captain deserves the chance to take his time with these negotiations. Not only that, but other markets are watching Edmonton closely.

The Oilers and Oilers fans should extend McDavid the maximum amount of patience possible in these contract talks while trying to fulfill all of his demands. If that happens, McDavid will have no issue staying in Edmonton.
