It's been revealed from German news sources that Edmonton Oilers prospect Luca Munzenberger is expected to leave the Oilers organization sign a contract with Kolner Haie of the DEL.

The Oilers are also set to lose the rights to Munzenberger by August 15th which it appears a contract was unabled to be settled and agreed upon.

Oilers have been having trouble keep prospects in their system

Munzenberger's development has not gone as well as the Oilers had hoped as the six foot two and 201lb defenseman would have progressed to challenge for a spot either with the Oilers or with the Bakersfield Condors.
The primary reason for his plateau is his offensive game. He went 0-3-3 in 32 games in his freshman year, and in his sophomore season, he had a very modest increase to 0-5-5 in 28 games. The hope was that his junior season would see more offence, however, Munzenberger ended up going 1-2-3 in 32 games. There is no question some of this relates to a very weak offensive program on the whole. In his three years in Vermont, the team has averaged 1.7, 1.9 and 2.5 goals per game. It is tough to increase your personal point totals if your team only manages two goals per game. - Bruce Curlock

With his loss, the Oilers now have only one draft pick remaining from the 2021 entry draft in Matvei Petrov which does not bode well for the prospect pool.

Other prospect has left the Oilers organization recently

The Oilers were also informed at the beginning of June that 2024 sixth round pick Dalyn Wakely has chosen to leave the organization and has decided to go and commit fully to the University of Massachusetts Lowell next year.
Having played with the North Bay Battalion and the Barrie Colts, Wakely has chosen the NCAA and will see the Oilers lose his rights as well.
The 2025 draft will be a quiet one for general manager Stan Bowman. Barring any significant trades that could recoup draft picks, the Oilers only have their 3rd 6th and 7th pick and will likely need to wait till next year's draft to make a significant addition.
The NHL entry draft is set to begin on June 27th with unrestricted free agency opening on July 1st.
