The Edmonton Oilers have reportedly made significant progress on a contract extension for defenceman Jake Walman.

This comes just after the Oilers announced a new 3 year contract for forward Vasily Podkolzin today. Both Walman and Podkolzin are expected to be key pieces of the Oilers for the future.

Edmonton Oilers progressing on contract extension with Jake Walman

According to a new update from Frank Seravalli, the Oilers have progressed significantly on a deal with Jake Walman.
They've made progress on an extension with defenceman Jake Walman.

I believe they've been centered on a long term deal between Walman and the Oilers, we'll see what that number comes in at when it does get done.

Re-signing Walman will be a great bit of business for the Oilers after he proves to be a seamless fit last season. A strong two-way defender with the ability to play both sides, Walman gave the Oilers defence 3 solid pairings to run at all times - a major asset for any team looking for playoff success.
Multiple NHL analysts rated the Oilers defence as the best in the NHL after the Walman acquisition. With him under contract long term, the Oilers left side will be incredibly strong.
Interestingly, insiders and players alike expected the team to prioritize McDavid's contract before other deals. If Podkolzin and Walman are under contract before McDavid, a plan may have changed.
Hopefully the Oilers can close in on a team-friendly contract with Walman and lock in their league-best defence.
