The Edmonton Oilers announced the deal themselves on social media this morning.
Podkolzin was acquired by the Oilers in trade last offseason from the Vancouver Canucks, and the former first round draft pick for in seamlessly to the Oilers lineup.
The 24-year old forward played mostly alongside
Leon Draisaitl, and did a fantastic job as a complimentary player. His ability to retrieve pucks along the wall, make setup plays, and cover defensively was essential to Draisaitl's success last year.
In 82 games last year, Podkolzin only scored 8 goals and 24 points - but the Oilers believe there's more offence to unlock. With another full season next to Draisaitl, the young Russian forward could take a step forward offensively and be locked down to a bargain price.
This looks to be a great deal for the Edmonton Oilers, and could become much better if Podkolzin can take another step forward as a player.
