Edmonton Oilers prospect Connor Clattenburg is quickly making a name for himself in the team's prospect system, from both fans and management.
Connor Clattenburg's rough style of play draws attention in Oilers training camp
Oilers fans online are highlighting Clattenburg as a standout talent in this year's rookie tournament and first preseason game. He may still be far away from the NHL, but if he keeps up these efforts, he'll earn a role.
Clattenburg plays an aggressive physical game, with already a few fights in the early games this year. If he can carve out a path to the NHL, it'll be relying on his physicality and being a pest on the ice.
Players like Clattenburg who bring this energy and physicality will always be in demand for 4th line roles. Even though he's not exactly a skill player, he could be an impact NHL player.
Now 20 years old, Clattenburg will be headed to the AHL's Bakersfield Condors this year for his first full pro season.
If he can handle himself well against the pros, and make strides in a penalty killing role, he can prove some utility to earn a call up to the NHL in a few seasons. Oilers fans will closely be watching his development with the Condors this season, and keep an eye for him to make the roster next year.
