Oilers reveal when Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will play first preseason game
The Edmonton Oilers have finally hit the ice for preseason hockey again, but fans will still have to wait for Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
The Oilers kicked off the preseason with split-squad action, and aren't expected to slim down their roster until later this week. Usually NHL stars miss out the first few games, and that seems to be the Oilers' approach with McDavid and Draisaitl too.
Oilers coach reveals McDavid and Draisaitl will make preseason start in next home game
After yesterday's preseason games, Coach Knoblauch revealed that the team is slotting in McDavid and Draisaitl for their first game tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets.
[You'll] probably see our top guys playing in our first exhibition game at home.
- Coach Knoblauch
Excluding yesterday's split squad action, tomorrow night will be the team's first preseason home game - and fans will be treated to see the superstars back on the ice.
It's obviously a critical year, and even a start to the year for McDavid as long as he's unsigned for next season. He'll be looking to get off to a quick start this year to give themselves the best seeding possible for playoffs.
With the superstars and other NHL players getting into the preseason lineups too, the Oilers will start to slim down their roster. The team has already announced their first two cuts, and
there's much more expected later this week. Hopefully the Oilers can put on a good show for the home fans tomorrow with more NHL players in the lineup.
