With the exit of several veterans from the Oilers' lineup, the opportunity for 1st-time NHLers to seize the moment, and a spot in the lineup, is very good.

Three Oilers' prospects likely to make roster for 2025-26 season

Matt Savoie has a strong case to make the Edmonton Oilers roster this year, mainly due to his high offensive potential and successful season with Bakersfield last year in the AHL, recording 54 points in 66 games, as well as gaining 4-games of NHL experience as a call-up.
The Oilers traded for Savoie to infuse their veteran lineup with young talent, and they are hoping he can step-up and fill a middle-six role, given how much he's improved defensively and on the penalty kill. His versatility and elite skill give him a huge advantage over others at camp.
David Tomasek led the SHL in points last season with 57 in 47 games. The SHL is a highly competitive league, and producing at a point-per-game pace is a significant achievement.
The Oilers are looking to fill out their forward depth, particularly at right-shot center and right wing, positions that Tomášek can play effectively, increasing his chances of earning a roster spot.
He possesses a quick and deceptive shot that could translate well to the NHL, along with strong defensive awareness and faceoff abilities, particularly in the defensive zone.
Former Hobey Baker Award winner Ike Howard is a gifted offensive winger known for his puck skills, quick release, vision, and ability to find soft spots in defensive-zone coverage.
With the removal of Evander Kane and Viktor Arvidsson, and after losing Connor Brown to free agency, the younger Howard has the opportunity to step into a middle-six role.
Though it may be their first NHL camp, these prospects have shown maturity while developing their offensive skills, but in particular defensively, where they are likely to show their true value to the club. Showing they be responsible in their roles will be the key to their success this year.
