The Edmonton Oilers are back in preseason action tonight on the road against the Winnipeg Jets, and a few more NHL players will be on the ice.
Connor McDavid and
Leon Draisaitl won't be playing tonight, as the coach has already circled September 24th at home as their preseason debut date. However, some more NHLers will be travelling to Winnipeg.
Oilers insider reveals likely roster players for tonight's preseason game vs Winnipeg Jets
According to Oilers reporter Daniel Nugent-Bowman, there was a significant amount of Oilers not on the ice for today's practice. These players are likely preparing to travel to Winnipeg for the game tonight.
It's obviously not a large enough group to ice a full lineup, but there will also be more prospects travelling to Winnipeg to play tonight.
Notably, the trio of Henrique, Nuge, and Savoie have seen some significant usage together early in training camp. All three players have been used on one line and in penalty killing pairs. Especially with the rookie Savoie, the Oilers could be playing them early to get him plenty of reps before the regular season.
If that trio forms a new-look 3rd line for the Oilers this season, they'll be playing a critical role for the team. It's good to see them get plenty of usage this preseason.
Also notably, Ike Howard will be getting into another game and looking to make an impression on management to keep him on the NHL roster to start the upcoming season.
Ty Emberson and
Troy Stecher will also be battling for the 6th defenceman spot.
The Oilers will release more information on tonight's lineups prior to the game, which will be updated here.
