Oilers President Jeff Jackson names exact moment that saved Oilers playoffs
The Edmonton Oilers are now on a great playoff roll and only one win away from a Stanley Cup Final berth, but it was almost lost back in the first round.
The Oilers were shockingly named underdogs heading into the NHL playoffs against the Los Angeles Kings, and they very nearly went down 0-3 to them in the first round - until a heroic comeback.
Oilers president Jeff Jackson credits Evan Bouchard play for saving the season
Speaking to Sportsnet in a interview before Game 4, Oilers president Jeff Jackson specifically mentioned Evan Bouchard's clutch play at the blue line in Game 3 lead to a crucial comeback win, saving the team from going down 0-3.
We needed a couple games to get the guys in sync, a lot of guys were coming off injury. We felt good, but we were fortunate in Game 3 to be honest. Bouch kept the puck in at the blue line, we scored, and from there we've played very, very well.
- Jeff Jackson
The Oilers were just minutes away from falling 0-3 in the first round, which is statistically a near impossible deficit to overcome.
The same team almost did it in last year's cup final, but asking to overcome that series deficit again would've possibly been too much for the Oilers. Their Game 3 comeback win against Los Angeles, their first playoff game this year on home ice, may have saved the entire season.
Jackson may be remembering an earlier play with Bouchard, but it was
Jake Walman who made the play to keep the puck in at the blue line long enough for
Evander Kane to battle in the net front to tie the game.
If not for this amazing comeback win, Jeff Jackson is right - the Oilers may have been in trouble. Since then though, they're clicking at an elite rate and look unstoppable on their quest for the Cup.
