Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is the sole player remaining from the Oilers decade of darkness, and on the brink of another Cup Finaly he delivered a heartfelt message to Edmonton.
A first overall pick of the Oilers back in 2011, Nugent-Hopkins has grown into a seasoned veteran of 959 games in Edmonton, and absolutely loves the city.
Nugent-Hopkins delivers heartfelt message to Edmonton during best playoff hockey of his career
After a great Game 4 win over the Dallas Stars, Nugent-Hopkins was asked to reflect on his career with the Oilers and the heights the team is currently reaching - and Nuge just couldn't say enough great things.
It just keeps getting better and better. It's unbelievable. It's hard to wrap your head around sometimes, how unbelievable this fanbase is. It seems like every series, every game, they get louder in there. There's more people out on the streets before and after.
You feel the support. When I first came in, we were obviously a struggling team, but you never really felt the negativity too much. There's still a lot of positivity and hope. Now, like Leo said, we're one win away from going to back to back Stanley Cup Finals. This is as exciting as it gets for us as a team, and for a fanbase that's stuck around through a lot of years. It never gets old.

It's absolutely incredible to hear Nuge speak so candidly and with such genuine passion for playing in the playoffs, and sharing the experience with the fans in Edmonton.
The Oilers fans and players have a special connection different from most Canadian teams, that's always rooted in optimism as Nuge mentioned. This team deals with an incredible amount of adversity, and yet always find a way to pull through.
Right now, it's Nugent-Hopkins who's the star of the Oilers offence. With 9 points in the second round, he's delivering the kind of clutch performances that can push the team to win a Stanley Cup.
It seems incredibly likely they'll earn a rematch against the defending Florida Panthers. It will be a great rivalry showdown that could finally deliver the first cup in the McDavid era, but no player will be more deserving to lift the Cup than Nuge.
