Oilers could make 2 more roster moves imminently with rookie forwards
The Edmonton Oilers may be gearing up to recall Quinn Hutson and Ike Howard back from the AHL tomorrow.
The Oilers re-assigned Max Jones to the AHL today, but made no corresponding roster moves. Kasperi Kapanen may be nearing a return, but he's only joined one practice so far. Considering this information, more recalls from the AHL make sense.
Oilers may be calling up Quinn Hutson and Ike Howard tomorrow
One Oilers fan who has accurately broken information previously is relaying that both Hutson and Howard will be joining the Oilers tomorrow.
If the Oilers do in fact call up both players, there would also have to be another corresponding roster move to clear salary cap space. They could shift Tristan Jarry to retroactive LTIR, but that would only be a temporary fix.
Perhaps the Oilers are nearing a trade with Mangiapane, which could clear up to $3.6M in cap space.
Both Howard and Hutson deserve the call up after dominating the AHL offensively, and given the fact that the Oilers bottom six can barely score a goal.
Hutson is up to 4th in AHL scoring with 19 goals in 26 games, while Howard is at 23 points in 16 games. They've more than earned this call up, and the Oilers desperately need some offence in their bottom six.
Knoblauch gave Howard and Hutson very limited ice time when they were with the team earlier this year. If they're being brought back, they need to be in meaningful roles where they can actually contribute some offence - not playing under 8 minutes a night.
We'll see if these roster moves pan out tomorrow, but it seems like the Oilers could be shaking up their bottom six in the very near future.
