The Edmonton Oilers have announced the emergency recall of forward Noah Philp from the Bakersfield Condors, after playing last night's game against Anaheim down a player.
Edmonton Oilers make emergency roster move after playing a man short due to salary cap reasons
The Oilers have recalled Noah Philp, who will get one more look as the team's potential fourth line center before the playoffs. Insider Bob Stauffer has been bullish on Philp's role all season.
The 26 year old Alberta native Philp has had a resurgent year since coming out of retirement to re-join the Oilers organization.
Philp has turned in a great season of 15 goals and 30 points in 52 AHL games, and also earned 12 games in the NHL already - the most of any Oilers prospect call up this year.
He will likely get into the Oilers lineup right away, as the team has suffered so many injuries and last night against Anaheim, had two more injury scares with Corey Perry and Vasily Podkolzin. It's possible one of them will be unable to play next game.
There may have been a demand to call up top prospect Matthew Savoie, a more offensive player who could perhaps help the team without McDavid or Draisaitl in the lineup. Unfortunately, Savoie makes just a bit more salary than the emergency recall threshold allows.
The Bakersfield Condors was already lightly populated, and this emergency recall will only make things worse for them. There's even been talk of significant locker room problems in Bakerfield.
It will be one more great opportunity for Philp to prove himself in the NHL.
