Edmonton Oilers announce fantastic contract extension for Ty Emberson
There was some growing pains for Emberson in the mid-point of the season, but overall, the 24 year old proved himself capable of being at least a bottom pairing defenceman.
Given his youth, there's so much more time for him to continue to develop his game and improve even more over the course of this contract.
In 76 games this season, Emberson only registered 11 points, but was a consistent presence on the bottom pairing and led the team in penalty kill ice time.
For only $1.3M, a serviceable and improving young defenceman is a great deal for the Oilers. Considering the growth of the salary cap to $95.5M next season, it's not a steep raise from his current salary of $950K.
It's a great deal for the Oilers to lock in a young defenceman for a few more years at a cheap number. Hopefully when Emberson is up for his next contract, he's up for a major raise after settling in as a quality player.
