The Edmonton Oilers are dealing with a brutal situation while missing multiple key players with injury, and it now sounds like Skinner's return timeline is indefinite.
Oilers insider reports Skinner has begun skating, but no return timeline is available
According to a recent update from Oilers insider Jason Gregor, Stuart Skinner has begun slowly skating, and hasn't begun to take any shots against.
My source tells me that Stuart Skinner has skated, but I don't know if it's with pads on or just skating. He hasn't taken a boatload of shots, my understanding is. The fact he's even on the ice is a good sign.
I still think if Skinner was 100% healthy, he probably would be the starter come playoffs.

It's obviously good news that Skinner is on the ice, but the fact that there is some doubt that he could be unavailable to begin the playoffs.
Concussions are extremely volatile in their recovery timelines, and there can be additional concerns about neck and whiplash injuries - which could especially impact a goaltender.
There is a possibility that Skinner isn't fully recovered from injury before playoffs, and perhaps Pickard has proved he has the trust for some big starts. However, if Skinner is healthy, he is the goaltender the Oilers will be rolling with.
While Skinner has struggled with his consistency throughout this season, he's clearly the team's de facto starting goalie, and they'll want him back and fully healthy before playoffs. It seems like he's making progress, but hopefully he will be back by then.
