The Edmonton Oilers have officially punched their ticket to the third round of the playoffs, but they'll have quite a bit of time off before the start of their next series.
The Oilers have taken a new step in their second round series, seeing a complete effort from every depth player on their roster.
Oilers were expected to start 3rd round series tomorrow, now pushed back
Edmonton is now fully looking forward to their third round series, and hoping to get started right away.
Oilers insider Jason Gregor reported that the Western Conference Final would've began on May 17, but because of Winnipeg's Game 5 win, it's been pushed back.
It's interesting to hear the NHL would've began the Western Conference Final still awaiting a result for the East. Frankly, the Oilers caught a break by getting some extra time for rest and recovery.
Now then, the Oilers will turn their attention to the Jets and Stars series to await their new schedule. The NHL prefers a 3 day break after a series ends, making it likely the Oilers series will begin 3 days after their series.
Keeping in mind a three day break and the Jets series schedule, the most likely start dates for the Western Conference Finals is May 20th and May 22nd. The Eastern Conference will have an effect too, as the NHL won't want both games on the same day.
The extra time for the Oilers for now will be beneficial for rest and recovery, especially for McDavid and Draisaitl who are speculated to be playing through injury. When the third round does start, the Oilers will be fresh and ready to go.
