The Edmonton Oilers have officially recalled Quinn Hutson as the 23 year old forward has become a superstar scorer in the AHL this season.
The Oilers really need the boost to their lineup as the bottom six has been absolutely lifeless for long stretches this season. While the NHL bottom six has struggled, Hutson has dominated the AHL.
Oilers officially add Quinn Hutson to NHL roster
In 24 games this season with the Bakersfield Condors, Hutson has scored 16 goals and 28 points. Most of that production has come in the last 15 games, where he's been scoring at a McDavid-like pace.
Top Oilers insiders have been heavily hinting that this roster move was in the works, given Hutson's emergence and the bottom six struggles.
Oilers fans should be really excited for what Hutson can immediately add to the lineup. Arguably his best skill is his offensive awareness, leading to an ability to find open space and make slick passing plays.
It will be interesting to see who comes out of the lineup for Hutson's addition. Max Jones and David Tomasek are clear candidates, but others like Trent Frederic and Andrew Mangiapane would certainly deserve to sit for a game or two.
Signed as a college free agent during last season, this looks to be a great pickup from Stan Bowman.
Hopefully Hutson can actually get into the lineup and given some real opportunities to showcase his talent, and he might be able to significantly improve the Oilers' offence.
