Edmonton Oilers may revisit trade pitch for top Red Wings goaltender

Earlier this offseason, the Edmonton Oilers were strongly linked to trading for Red Wings goalie prospect Sebastian Cossa.
Top Oilers insiders linked Edmonton to having interest in trading for Cossa, and the price to acquire him may not even be too much.

The 22 year old goalie was drafted 15th overall in 2021, and has developed to being on the cusp of the NHL.
However, Cossa blocked behind the veteran goalies of John Gibson and Cam Talbot in Detroit. Even prospect Trey Augustine has surpassed Cossa on their depth chart, which may make the high-end goalie available.
In his last 82 AHL games, Cossa has posted an impressive .912 save percentage. At 6'7, he also fits the mold of modern goaltenders who have been imposing presences in net.
However, Oilers GM Stan Bowman has been pumping the brakes on an early goalie trade after Skinner struggled in Game 1 of the season.

Edmonton is determined to give Skinner more time to figure out his game, and if they do make a move, they'll need to acquire a proven option in goal. Cossa may be a good option for the future, but the Oilers need a goalie to win now.
