Top Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has revealed the expected trade price to acquire goaltender Sebastian Cossa from the Detroit Red Wings.

The Edmonton Oilers are clearly looking for an upgrade to their goaltending position, and have already been linked to trading for Cossa as a long-term option with elite potential.

On the have already been linked to trading for Cossa, Bob Stauffer said he believes the Detroit Red Wings are likely looking for a 1st round draft pick in return for Cossa.
What would the cost of Cossa be? Well if I was Detroit, I would want a first round pick back.

I mean, they drafted him with a mid-first round pick. I would think that would be kind of what they're looking for in return.

- Bob Stauffer

The Edmonton Oilers have a first round pick to offer, but it's valued closer to the bottom of the first round. If the Red Wings want to fully recuperate value on a mid-first round pick, the Oilers may still have to add a bit more to swing the deal.
Trading a first round draft pick for an unproven 22 year old goaltender and expecting he can help a team win the Stanley Cup this season is a risky play. However, there's real belief that Cossa could be worth it.
Cossa has dominated at every level he's played at, going back to 3 incredible seasons with the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL.
His last two years have primarily been in the AHL where he's posted an impressive .912 save percentage in 81 games. At 6'6 and athletic, he fits the model of the most successful modern NHL goalies. Stauffer had previously touted Cossa as the best WHL prospect since the legendary Carey Price.
The Oilers have already taken these types of risks with high-ceiling young players with the additions of Matthew Savoie and Ike Howard.
They could triple-down on the strategy with Sebastian Cossa, who could develop into a stable backstop for the Oilers for the long term.
