The Edmonton Oilers are headed to the third round of the NHL playoffs, which means Corey Perry has earned another contract bonus.
Earlier this season, salary cap experts revealed that the Oilers are likely to receive a small overage penalty to their salary cap next year because of these bonuses to Perry.
Corey Perry earns $200K in contract bonuses, still eligible to earn more this year
Perry's current contract with the Edmonton Oilers is a one year deal for $1.15M in base salary, and an additional $250K in bonuses.
The veteran forward earned $150K in bonuses for playing 15 games this year, will earn $50K for a conference final appearance, and could earn $50K more if the Oilers make the Cup Final.
PuckPedia has calculated the Oilers total overage penalty to be only $150K for next season - a very worthy price tag for the savvy vet Corey Perry.
After leading the league with the highest overage last year ($3.45 million), this year the Edmonton Oilers have one of the smallest overages at $150K, which comes from Corey Perry.

Corey Perry has been worth every penny to Oilers this season
There was some real doubt about re-signing the 40 year old Perry for another playoff run, but he's shown to adapt his game with age to still be an incredibly effective player.
Scoring 19 goals and 30 points this season, as well as 7 points in 11 playoff games, Perry has been worth far more than his $1.4M total salary.
Hopefully the Edmonton Oilers can win him a Stanley Cup this season, and the Worm can head off into retirement on a high after losing in the Cup Final for a 5th time in 6 years.
