Oilers defenceman Jake Walman is looking for a contract extension, but his agent has revealed there's a big hold-up in negotiations.

Insider Bob Stauffer recently reported that the Oilers and Walman's camp were in discussions, and a 6-year contract may be the most likely final term.
I'd have a better handle of who the Oilers might be going out and acquiring. You know, who they might get extended. I could see Jake Walman getting a six-year extension at some point in the sixes. I could see that happen.

Jake Walman's agent reveals team will prioritize McDavid contract over others

According to a new update from Sportsnet's Mark Spector, Walman's agent revealed contract talks are ongoing, but a deal isn't expected to be reached until McDavid comes to terms on an extension.
Aside from Walman, the Oilers have a number of other players in need of contract extensions, including Ekholm, Podkolzin, Skinner, and more.
The Oilers may have to keep rook to pay McDavid the maximum amount of salary, so it makes sense they'd get the biggest deal done first. However, there should be a bit of a rush on the deal now - signing Walman and Podkolzin before the season would be a great move for the team.
On the other hand, McDavid has frequently expressed he feels no rush to sign a new contract. That may cause an issue considering the wait on other deals.
Hopefully the Oilers can find a way to wrap up their business with McDavid before the beginning of the regular season, and get to the rest of their extensions.
