Oilers' pipeline goalie Samuel Jonsson has been named the Warrior Hockey Goaltender of the the Week after recording two shutouts with his ECHL team Fort Wayne Komets.

Oilers' prospect goalie on an historic pace

Jonsson's back-to-back shutouts marks the first time it's happened in the ECHL, with the 21-year-old stopping all 44 shots he faced in both games, including a 4-0 win on Wednesday and a 2-0 victory on Saturday.
Jonsson improved to 3-0-0 with a 1.67 GAA and a .932 SV%, while leading all ECHL netminders with two shutouts.
It's not the first time that Samuel has earned top-honors for a goaltender. Last season, he led the Swedish Hockey League with six shutouts and posted a league-best 1.88 GAA and a record of 17-6-0 in 24 starts with Bofors IK, for which he also won Goalie of the Year.
Jonsson is currently under a 3-year entry-level contract with the Oilers at a cap hit of $855K, though his minor league salary is $83K.
Jonsson's play this season has been exceptional, leading the ECHL with two shutouts for 3-0-0 record.
His elite game cannot be disputed as he continues to perform like a top NHL prospect; he's helped his team the Fort Wayne Comets to be among the league's top defensive teams.
For the Oilers, Samuel Jonsson's elite play could not have come at a better time. The team's goaltending has been faltering since the start of the season, including last night against the St. Louis Blues, and for the last two years, in fact, blamed in large part for the Oilers losing in consecutive Finals to the Panthers.
