It was clear that someone in goal had to rise to the occasion and Stuart Skinner answered the call with some solid performances.
But that will not stop general manager Ken Holland in his search to finding a new goaltender. They need a two-goalie system to take a long run at the Stanley Cup.
Their division rival the Anaheim Ducks may have the answer for the Oilers where recently they have made the hockey world know that their star goaltender John Gibson is for sale.
Despite being on a terrible team, Gibson has been a relatively strong goalie for the Ducks over the last nine seasons. Aside the 2022-2023 season he has held over a .900 save percentage and can produce several shoutouts in one season.
The 30-year-old goalie holds a cap hit of 6.4 million over the next three seasons and would give the Oilers cost certainty between the pipes. Depending on how the Oilers could frame a trade with the ducks, and what their plans are for Jack Campbell it's certainly possible a deal could be done between the rivals.
No matter how good the Oilers are playing now, it's in general manager Holland's best interests to fortify the goalie position to help the team go on a long run later this year.
