The Vancouver Canucks will be in for another media storm after President Jim Rutherford's bizarre comments today on the future of their captain Quinn Hughes.

The Canucks had a failure of a season this year, missing the playoffs and taking a significant step back as the team was embroiled in locker room drama.

Canucks president Jim Rutherford will likely be investigated for tampering charges after comments on Quinn Hughes

In their end of season media conference, Jim Rutherford bluntly laid out their difficult path forward to keeping Quinn Hughes - either trade for his brothers in New Jersey, trading him there, or he leaves in free agency.
He's said before, he wants to play with his brothers. That would be partly out of our control, in our control if we brought his brothers here.

This franchise cannot afford to lose a guy like Quinn Hughes. We will do everything we can to keep him here, but at the end of the day, it'll be his decision. Well, we gotta be careful with tampering here.

- Jim Rutherford

As Rutherford himself mentioned, these comments could actually get them in trouble with the NHL for tampering charges. Public comments on the statuses of other team's players is tampering, and the Canucks are clearly guilty here.

Alarm bells raised on Quinn Hughes' future with Vancouver Canucks

Not only is it concerning for tampering charges, but the Canucks captain been the team's best player in a year where the entire team fell apart, and now he may have one foot out the door.

Hughes walking in free agency to sign with New Jersey in 2 years would be disastrous for Vancouver, and may entirely spark another rebuild.

The Canucks are in clear crisis mode with extremely questionable comments like these from their management. Their entire team could implode just as quickly as their core made a return to the playoffs.
