Moments ago, news broke that the Utah Hockey Club has signed their first ever player contract, an entry-level deal with Noel Nordh.

Nordh was a third round draft pick of the Arizona Coyotes in 2023. The 6'2 Swedish winger has had great success in the last two seasons, and now may earn a look in training camp with Utah. Still only 19 years old, it'll likely be a while before Nordh cracks the NHL.

In addition, Utah is reportedly open to trading their sixth overall draft pick this season. That's a big enough asset to command a significant return, especially if Utah attaches anything else. It would make sense for Utah to target a starting goalie like Ullmark or Markstrom, a quality young forward like Necas or Zegras, or even a certified star like Mitch Marner.

Also armed with $43M in cap space and new ownership, Utah is looking to make a big splash in free agency. There's plenty of star candidates available, and Utah has the money available to pay for a new face to the franchise.

Recently, Utah had officially announced that they'll temporarily use the name Utah Hockey Club and a basic jersey for the upcoming season, while they finalize their actual branding.

Along with the quality young talent that the Coyotes roster built from years of finishing near last, some aggressive moves from Utah's new ownership could actually make this a quality playoff team sooner than later. With a clear desire to get better for their first year, Utah will be a great team to watch this offseason.
